Before you're a client

How do I start a project?

Fill out the free assessment on the home page. You'll see a starting price right away, and I follow up by email to work out what you need and agree on one fixed price. The full path is on The Process.

Is the estimate a quote?

No. The estimator gives you a ballpark so you know the range. The real price is the one we agree on after we've talked it through by email, and that number doesn't change mid-build.

How is the project paid for?

As two PayPal invoices: half to get started and half when the project is finished. That's the whole project cost, and nothing recurs from it.

Do I need a Care Plan?

Yes. Every live site needs one, and Silver is the minimum. The project fee and the Care Plan are two separate charges. A Care Plan doesn't start by itself when you pay the project invoices. You set it up yourself when your site launches.

Can I get a Care Plan for a site someone else built?

Care Plans are for sites I've built, so I know how everything is put together. If you have a site built elsewhere, tell me about it and we can talk about whether I can take it on.

Your account

What is a Customer ID and where do I find it?

It's a short code like BW-4K7Q2 that identifies your account. It's in the welcome email I send after your first payment. You need it, with your email, to cancel a plan or send a question from this page.

I lost my Customer ID

Choose "Lost Customer ID" in the form at the bottom and enter your email. If it matches an account, I'll email the ID to that address. It never appears on this page.

Why do I need both my email and my Customer ID?

So nobody can cancel your plan or read your account details by guessing. Both have to match what I have on file, and a cancellation also needs you to confirm from a link sent to your email.

My email address changed

The forms only work with the email on file. Email me at [email protected] from your new address, mention the old one, and I'll update my records.

The confirmation email never arrived

It can take a few minutes. Check spam, and make sure you used the email on your account. The link only works for one hour, so if it expired, request a new one. If it still doesn't show up, email me and I'll handle it directly.

Billing

What does each plan cost?

Silver is $69 a month, Gold is $149, Platinum is $429, and Meteorite starts at $949 and is scoped to your situation. Annual billing saves two months: $690, $1,490 and $4,290 for the first three. Current details are always on the Care Plans page.

When am I charged?

Plans renew automatically, every month or every year depending on what you chose, until you cancel. PayPal takes the payment on the renewal date.

Where are my receipts?

PayPal emails a receipt for every payment, and they're also in your PayPal account activity. If you need a copy for your bookkeeping and can't find one, ask below and I'll send it.

How do I change my payment method?

Your plan is a subscription in your PayPal account. Open the payments section of your PayPal settings, find the automatic payment for Bob's Webworks, and change the funding source there. PayPal controls that screen, so its labels may change.

What happens if a payment fails?

I get an alert when PayPal reports a failed payment, and I'll reach out to you. Your plan is what keeps the site hosted, so a plan that stays unpaid can eventually mean the site comes down. Fixing the payment method in PayPal usually sorts it out.

Can I switch between monthly and annual?

Yes. Choose "Changing plan" below and tell me which you want. I'll confirm the price and the start date before anything changes, so you aren't charged twice for the same period.

Can I get a refund?

If you cancel and a renewal is charged before I've processed your request, I refund it. For anything else, such as a project invoice, ask me. Project terms are in your Services Agreement.

Care Plans

What's included in every plan?

Hosting, a secure connection, your domain pointed at the site, weekly automated backups, security updates for everything the site runs on, bug fixes on existing features, uptime monitoring, and email support.

What's different between Silver, Gold, Platinum and Meteorite?

Silver covers upkeep: 30 minutes of development time and 3 Quick-Fixes a month, with a 2 business day email response. Gold adds daily backups, 24/7 monitoring, a priority bug queue, a quarterly health check, phone support, and a 1 business day response, with 1 hour of development and 8 Quick-Fixes. Platinum adds same-day response on critical bugs, a monthly 15-minute call and minor design and content refreshes, with 3 hours and 12 Quick-Fixes. Meteorite is a full partnership with 6 hours and a priority line.

Which plan should I pick?

Silver if the site mostly sits and needs upkeep. Gold is the standard choice for most small businesses. Platinum fits a site that changes often. If you aren't sure, ask and I'll tell you honestly which one you need, even if that's the cheaper one.

Can I upgrade or downgrade?

Yes. Choose "Changing plan" below. I confirm the new price and the date it starts before anything changes. Silver is the lowest plan a live site can be on.

Do unused hours roll over?

No. Development hours and Quick-Fixes reset each month and don't carry forward. If you regularly run out, a higher plan or extra time (as my schedule allows) is the fix.

What counts as development time, and what doesn't?

Development time covers changes to what's already there: updates, adjustments, small improvements. A bigger feature request, like a new section with its own logic, gets quoted separately instead of coming out of your monthly time.

How fast will you respond?

Silver gets an email response within 2 business days. Gold gets 1 business day, by email or phone. Platinum gets same-day response on critical bugs. Meteorite has a same-day priority line, most weekends. Questions sent through this page usually get a reply within a day or two.

How do backups and monitoring work?

Backups run automatically: weekly on Silver and daily on Gold and above. Monitoring watches whether your site is up, during business hours on Silver and around the clock with alerts on Gold and above. If something breaks, tell me and I can restore from a backup.

Quick-Fixes

What is a Quick-Fix?

A way to get small bugs and tweaks handled fast. You report a problem from your site or app, and a fix gets drafted within minutes by SI (super intelligence). I review every change before it ships, so you get the speed without the guesswork.

What is a good Quick-Fix request?

Small and specific: a typo, a broken link, a button that does nothing, wrong opening hours, an image that won't load. Say which page, what you see and what you expected. Anything that needs new design, new logic or a new feature is a quote instead.

What happens when I use all my Quick-Fixes for the month?

You choose at signup whether to stop at your limit or keep going. I let you know as you get close, and you can pick up to three heads-up points. Nothing extra is ever billed unless you've agreed to it first.

Does a person actually look at the changes?

Yes. Every change is reviewed by me before it goes live. The automated drafting is what makes it quick, and the review is what keeps it safe.

Your site and domain

My site is down or looks broken

Choose "My site has a problem" below, or email me. Tell me the page address, what you see, and when it started. A screenshot helps. Gold and above can also call. Critical bugs on Platinum and Meteorite get a same-day response.

Who owns the code and the domain?

While your site is in my care, I host it and I hold the code and the domain. If you ever want to take them with you, you can buy them from me. We agree how that works up front, before the project starts, so there's no guessing later.

Can I move my site to another host?

Yes, through the code and domain purchase described above. Ask before you cancel so we can plan the handoff. After the paid period ends, the site comes offline.

Can I get access to my files or hosting?

Ask me. What you can access depends on your agreement, and I'm happy to send copies of content such as text and images that you've provided or approved.

How do I change my domain or its DNS records?

Choose "Domain or DNS" below and tell me what you want changed. If you use email on the same domain (Google Workspace, Zoho and similar), tell me first, because a DNS change can interrupt email if it's done carelessly.

Does my site have HTTPS?

Yes. A secure connection is included in every plan, and I keep it renewed.

Can I add a feature, a page or an integration later?

Yes. Small additions can be done within your monthly time. Larger ones, like accounts, payments, a database or a connection to other software, get a quote first.

Can you update the content for me?

Yes. Text and image swaps are good Quick-Fixes. Platinum and Meteorite also include minor design and content refreshes.

Cancelling

How do I cancel?

Use the cancel page. Enter your email and Customer ID, pick a reason, and I email you a link to confirm. You can also cancel from your PayPal account, or email me. Using the cancel page makes sure I see it right away.

How long does cancelling take?

I process it within 48 hours of the time you first sent the request, not the time you pressed confirm. If a renewal is charged before I get to it, I refund it.

What happens to my site after I cancel?

It stays up until the end of the period you've already paid for, then it goes offline. Your plan is what keeps it hosted, so there's no free tier after cancelling.

Can I change my mind?

Before the paid period ends, email me and I'll stop it. After the site is offline, get in touch and we'll talk about bringing it back.

Do I have to give a reason?

You have to pick one from the list, but "something else" is fine and it never stops your cancellation. It helps me improve.

Privacy and safety

What information do you keep about me?

Your name, email, Customer ID, plan, payment records and any requests you send me. The privacy policy lists everything, who else handles it, and how long I keep it.

Can I see, fix or delete my information?

Yes. Choose "Privacy request" below and say what you'd like. I aim to respond within 45 days, and usually much sooner.

Do you store my card or bank details?

No. Payments go through PayPal's own checkout, and I never see or store your card or bank number.

How do I know an email is really from you?

I write from [email protected], and payments only ever go through PayPal. I won't ask for a password or card number by email. If something looks off, don't click it. Forward it to me and I'll tell you whether it's mine.

Ask me something
